If there are problems, you should see error descriptions in the Message panel. Go to: Tools > Messages > Increase verbosity from 0 to 2 hopefully this archives the solution so that it is easier to find in future. Unfortunately, their correct solution is buried at the bottom of 5 pages of responses that don't work. > Avformat Demuxer > Save, exit and restart VLCĬredit to Jean-Francois and Lotesdelere on the VideoLan forum. > Click radio button to Show Settings = ALL instead of SIMPLE The solution is to change the default demuxer to the Avformat demuxer. A google search shows threads from 4 YEARS AGO reporting this issue, with one of those threads also saying this issue had been present for 5 YEARS at the time of posting. You could just undo these changes again if you want to.Note: a symptom of this problem is seeing debug messages picture is too late to be displayed. When you uninstall VLC the user folder usually doesn't get deleted so: Close VLC.
Experiment with each one to see if it makes any difference. Click on the Video icon on top then in the Output field, which is probably set to Automatic.
